Only the gray shades hint at a certain spatiality. The relief and the small figure pick up on a central theme in Oskar Schlemmer&#8217;s work: The search for a new expression for man in an increasingly technologized world.<\/p>\n<p><em>Wire figure Homo with back figure on his hand <\/em>was originally created in 1930\/31 for the newly built house of the doctor Dr. Rabe in Zwenkau near Leipzig. Here it was part of a three-part wall design. What is the human being in a world increasingly determined by technology? <a href=\"https:\/\/digi.ub.uni-heidelberg.de\/diglit\/buehne_bauhaus1925\/0013\/image,info\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Man and art figure<\/em><\/a> is the title of his central essay, which he published at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bauhaus.de\/de\/das_bauhaus\/610_programm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bauhaus<\/a> in 1925. In it, he deals with topics such as <a href=\"https:\/\/kunsthalle-bielefeld.de\/en\/discover\/cultural-education\/art-a-to-z\/#abstraktion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abstraction<\/a>, mechanization and typification. In Schlemmer&#8217;s work, the human body always moves between the poles of lifelike forms and abstraction. It is built according to plans by architect Adolf Rading in the Bauhaus style. In 1930\/31, Oskar Schlemmer was commissioned to design the interior of the newly built rooms. The relief <em>wire figure Homo with the back figure on his hand<\/em> is the left part of a three-part wall piece. The second part in the center is a crosshair. The third part consists of a large left-facing facial profile on the right-hand side.
