His body is covered in injuries and his left hand is stuck in a baton bolt. Perhaps it is also a trap. Blood flows from it. The proportions of the body, i.e. the proportions, do not seem to be right: The body is quite massive, but too wide. And the head is far too small. Behind the man is a destroyed village. The broken houses also look too small.<\/p>\n<p>Who is the man?<br \/>\nIs he a hero or a war veteran? Is that a rucksack with painting utensils on his back?<\/p>\n<p>If an artist is depicted here, the question would be: Can the man ever use his hand to paint again? What happens when artists&#8217; hands are &#8216;tied&#8217;. His childhood and youth were shaped by the Second World War and its consequences. He tries to address the experiences of destruction and reconstruction of the country, as well as the disorientation of the people in his works of art. Certainly to a person who has done something honorable and courageous. But what price did these heroes have to pay to be seen as such?<\/p>\n<p>The heroes in Georg Baselitz&#8217;s artworks show the other, darker side of the coin, because his heroes look disturbed and hurt. They show the destructive power that every war brings with it. People and nature are always the ones who suffer here.
