However, the portrait was unplanned: After a long day in the studio, Marlene Dumas poured diluted paint residue onto a canvas. And then saw that this resulted in the shape of a face that resembles that of her daughter. The artist then painted the eyes, nose, mouth and hair onto the basic shape. A dream is often a conglomeration of memories, fantasy and emotions. Sometimes a dream feels so real that we startle ourselves awake at night &#8211; or wake up disappointed.<br \/>\nArt can have similar functions to a dream: It can be abstract, trigger feelings and thoughts without explaining everything in detail. Dreams and art tell stories, make us feel and think without being bound by logic.
