I often think about punctuation, pronunciation, emphasis or translation when I&#8217;m working in the studio or setting up an exhibition&#8221;<\/em>  says Katinka Bock about her approach to her work.<\/p>\n<p><em>Parole (Green Teeth with accent),<\/em> 2023, a green glazed ceramic work, a simple rectangular form with jagged edges on one side, already alludes in its title to the semantic possibilities that Bock locates in her sculpture. &#8220;Parole&#8221; &#8211; &#8220;the word&#8221; in French, comes out of a mouth that is equipped with teeth and speaks with an accent. The iridescent bottle-green glaze creates a link to the family of vessels, which form an important part of Bock&#8217;s artistic alphabet. This artistic alphabet, which seems so simple at first glance, is immediately placed in a field of relationships with what she experiences, as Bock views everything in her surroundings as living beings that relate to each other. She places a precious tree nut cast from bronze in the mouth of her sculpture. Initially inconspicuous, small but precious, the disruptive factor &#8211; the accent? The otherness? She simply sits on one of the spikes. Is there a nut to crack, a riddle to ponder? A simply serrated ceramic plate fitted with a small bronze nut triggers chains of associations that connect with the living world beyond the materiality of things. Katinka Bock sees connecting as her most important sculptural gesture. How do you combine two volumes, two beings, how do you form something new from both?<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;For me, the connection must remain reversible, because both for my own life and for that of my sculptures, I attach importance to being able to change my mind, to leave a back door or escape route open, I avoid gluing and screwing and prefer to connect the objects by simply pressing them together or tying them together.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the case of <em>Parole<\/em>, she simply places a nut cast from bronze on one of the prongs. Who speaks with an accent and sharp teeth? What deviations do we perceive in (social) space? Do we see the deviation as negative or positive?
