Room text EG: Angela Bulloch (*1966, Canada)
Angela Bulloch uses astronomical 3D mapping data as the basis for her “Night Sky” works. She translates this data into formal grids of LED lights cropped and arranged across luminous fields of felt that are reframed as abstract light images and can also be understood as digital starry skies. When viewed, it is apparent how objective data and subjective perception overlap: the strict order of the cosmos is transformed in our perception into patterns, images, and meanings. This results in a formal interplay between mathematical precision and human imagination.
