Nicole Miller  addresses social themes such as racism, identity, and representation in her artistic work. In her video “To the Stars” (2019), Miller expands this perspective to include the philosophical and existential significance of light: light is not only a physical phenomenon, but also a symbol of hope, resilience, and self-empowerment.

“To the Stars” combines interviews, dance and music performances, and reports from young people of color with the use of laser technology. Laser beams break through the image sequences, setting visual accents and giving the film a rhythmic structure. In the process, light becomes a symbol of individual possibilities, the power of transformation, and the overcoming of social barriers.
