Room text: Olafur Eliasson (*1967, Denmark)
Olafur Eliasson uses light as an artistic material—similar to the artists of Light and Space. With “Red window semicircle” (2008), Eliasson alters the effect of the surrounding space. To achieve this, he uses artificial light, red filters, and mirrors. In “Firefly night club” (2024), he combines rotating glass structures with LED light to create dynamic patterns of light and color.
Eliasson’s works are created through the interplay of art, science, and technology. Using light, color, and materials, he creates spaces that visitors can experience with all their senses. His work addresses fundamental questions: How does our perception work? What influences it? And how do humans relate to their environment?
