Sharing brings joy and makes room for something new!
Bring along well-preserved clothes that you no longer wear, and discover new favorites among the treasures others have brought. Instead of buying new things, we swap what we already have—it’s sustainable, creative, and community-oriented. In conjunction with our current exhibition, which explores the theme of “sharing” in its various facets, we invite you to a clothing swap party.
Do your clothes show signs of wear or need to be altered?
No problem—in collaboration with Transition Town Bielefeld’s Repair Café, they can be repaired right away, either before or after the swap—giving your new favorite items a new lease on life.
The new find has potential, but it’s still missing that certain something?
There will also be an upcycling station where you can add a personal touch to the clothes you’ve just swapped through creative alterations or custom embellishments.
Whether it’s for swapping, repairing, crafting, or just browsing and chatting. Come by and see how sharing leads to new connections.
The event is part of the cooperation project “Building Bridges – Creative and Sustainable”. This is a joint project of the Bildungsstätte Einschlingen, the IBZ Friedenshaus e.V. and the Kunsthalle Bielefeld. The aim of the project is to bring people from different backgrounds together through shared interests. The project aims to help people come into contact with each other beyond their usual social groups.

A short guided tour during the lunch break, offering a brief but in-depth look at a work of art. This time, Kunsthalle Director Christina Végh will take you on a tour of the exhibition.
How much conflict can art withstand? And who actually decides what art is?
With “Hot Takes! Kunsthalle Bielefeld x Debattierclub Bielefeld” is an event organized by the Kunsthalle Bielefeld in collaboration with the Debattierclub Bielefeld, inviting participants to take a closer look at controversial perspectives on art. The starting point is a series of provocative theses on the subject of art that regularly spark public debate. You often hear statements like “Anyone can make art” or “Art must be political,” but people rarely delve deeper into these controversial claims. In short debates, members of the Bielefeld Debate Club present and discuss arguments from different perspectives. In doing so, the debaters deliberately take positions that do not necessarily reflect their own views, in keeping with a culture of open debate. Who presents a convincing argument? That’s up to the audience. It’s not about finding definitive answers, but about learning about different perspectives and questioning your own views.
The event is open to anyone interested. “Hot Takes!” offers the opportunity to view the current exhibition from new perspectives and to experience art as a starting point for social dialogue.
The event was developed in collaboration with the Department of Art History at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, led by Prof. Dr. Timo Skrandies, and is being organized in collaboration with the Bielefeld Debate Club.
Immersion in one’s own artistic exploration and the joy of experimenting form the foundation of the evening studio. The individual creative process is supported by group discussions.

At the Open Studio, you can let your creativity run wild. No strict guidelines, but plenty of room to try things out, create, and experiment—all at your own pace. Whether you use a paintbrush, scissors, chalk, or collage materials: You decide what you feel like doing. A museum educator will be on site to assist you as needed, demonstrate techniques, or offer ideas. You don’t need any prior knowledge—just curiosity and a love of creating. People of all ages are welcome!
Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Admission to the exhibition is not included in the price.
Give yourself and selected works of art some more time! In a small group, the focus is on selected works, which are viewed and discussed intensively and at length. Impressions, moods and associations are discussed as well as detailed observations and, of course, questions. Together with our art educators, you can immerse yourself in the works and their history.

Let’s see, marvel, and create together! This event invites children and adults not only to view art, but also to discover it together. After a brief introduction to the exhibition, the entire group will head to the studio together for a creative activity. Whether you use paints, paper, pencils, or other materials—you work as a family or side by side, experiment, and create your own works of art that are just as diverse and vibrant as you are.
To wrap things up, we invite you to come together one last time over coffee, juice, and a little something sweet: to look back, share stories, listen, and let the experience sink in at your own pace. No prior experience is required, and there is no age restriction.
You can only attend if you have purchased a ticket for the event in advance.
Tickets can be purchased until 3:00 p.m. on the last Thursday before the event in the online shop or at the museum ticket office.

The Volksbank in East Westphalia and the Kunsthalle Bielefeld invite you to the next installment of the popular Sound Collection on Friday, September 25, 2026. Starting at 6 p.m., visitors can explore the current exhibitions while enjoying electronic music from the DJs of the Bielefeld-based collective NrzP.
Due to rising visitor numbers, the Sound Collection will remain open until 10 p.m. Admission to the Kunsthalle is until 9:30 p.m.
The Sound Collection has been a regular part of the exhibitions at Kunsthalle Bielefeld since 2021. The format combines art and music in a relaxed atmosphere and is generously sponsored by the Volksbank in Ostwestfalen. The centerpiece is the cooperation with the Bielefeld DJ collective Nummer zu Platz, which lends the event series its special signature.
The “Café Gemach Manhattan” in the Kunsthalle provides a relaxed atmosphere with a selection of drinks from 6 pm to 1 am. Here you can also dance to the music of the DJs. Admission to the Kunsthalle Bielefeld is free on this evening.

What does it mean to share—and why is it so relevant today? To accompany the first part of the exhibition *Divided Views*, we invite you to an evening event that explores the topic from various academic perspectives. In short keynote talks, Thomas Faist (sociologist, University of Bielefeld), Franca Parianen (neuroscientist), and Timo Skrandies (art historian, University of Düsseldorf) will discuss community, cooperation, and responsibility, as well as the question of under what conditions people share—or choose not to.
Afterward, the three guests will engage in conversation with one another and with the audience. An opportunity to explore the exhibition’s themes together and connect art with current social issues.
Oh yes! We look and marvel at the wonder world of the Kunsthalle during playful discovery tours. Here our little ones hear their first stories about colors, shapes and artists. Afterwards, there is space and time for drawing and blotting, muddling, painting and modeling for all it’s worth.
The course is aimed at children aged 3 to 5 years with an adult accompanying them.
