To accompany the exhibition “Gender – Domination – Visuality: Pierre Bourdieu’s Sociological View”, Bielefeld University, Zeppelin University (Friedrichshafen) and the Freiburg University of Education, in cooperation with the Fondation Pierre Bourdieu, invite you to this year’s Bourdieu Lectures.

The conference will focus on Pierre Bourdieu’s photographic work – in particular his photographs of Algeria (1957-1961) – and its significance for current debates in gender studies, social and cultural studies as well as post- and decolonial studies.

Keynotes, workshops and discussions are dedicated to questions of gender domination in the field of tension between visibility, body and social structure and shed light on the topicality of Bourdieu’s thinking in an intersectional and postcolonial context.

You can give free rein to your creativity in the open studio. Without fixed guidelines, but with plenty of room to try things out, create and experiment – at your own pace. Whether with brushes, scissors, chalk or collage material: you decide what you feel like doing. A museum educational guide is on site to support you if necessary, show you techniques or give you ideas. You don’t need any previous experience, just curiosity and a love of making things. All ages are welcome!

Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Admission to the exhibition is not included in the price.

Immerse yourself in an evening that combines the enjoyment of art and culinary delights! The evening begins with an exclusive guided tour of the exhibition “Alles Licht. Light and Space yesterday and today”. In a small group, you will gain exciting insights into the works and backgrounds of the exhibited artworks. Afterwards, a three-course meal awaits you at Café Gemach Manhattan, the café in the Kunsthalle Bielefeld. Enjoy delicious food and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere and reflect on what you have seen.

The event takes place in cooperation with the Neue Westfälische and the Haller Kreisblatt. NW Card holders and HK Card holders receive a 25% discount on the event price.

It is necessary to register for the event. The registration deadline is 16 November 2025. Please indicate your meal preferences (vegetarian/vegan/meat/fish) when registering. Please note: Payment for tickets is by invoice – it is not possible to pay at the Kunsthalle Bielefeld cash register.
