Closeness at a distance
Albrecht Fuchs: Portraits

Born in Bielefeld in 1964 and based in Cologne, photographer Albrecht Fuchs portrays artists ranging from Ennio Morricone, Martin Kippenberger and Isabelle Huppert to John Baldessari, Nicole Eisenman and Kasper König. After thirty years of work, his series of pictures, some of which were commissioned for newspapers or magazines, provide an insight into artists’ circles worldwide. His photographs are characterized by the fact that he seeks closeness in the distance of the camera. He always shows the personalities in their surroundings, always focusing on the connection between person and space. In this way, Fuchs succeeds in photographing the subjects with great naturalness or even quiet intimacy. His works have been exhibited internationally and are represented in renowned collections. Magazines such as art, Monopol, Süddeutsche Zeitung and FAZ regularly publish his portraits.
